Trucking Chief Speaks out on Theatre of Security

The CEO of the Canadian Trucking Alliance told a conference of US, Mexican and Canadian trade and transportation stakeholders that the Canada-US border is thickening and governments, mainly at the national level, "continue to heap costs on transborder trucking under the cloak of security."

David Bradley was speaking to a conference of the North American Super Corridor Coalition (NASCO) in Fort Worth, Texas.

Bradley said that the trucking industry has had to cope with at least a dozen new US security measures in the last six years. "It is really the theatre of security," he said. "No one seems to be doing a cost-benefit analysis and we don’t know where it will end."

"If our political leaders really do want the North American trade bloc to be able to compete with the emerging economic super powers in Asia or even the European Union, then they must consider the costs that the supply chain has to absorb," he said.

Bradley earned a number of rounds applause for his straight forward assessment of "the thickening border" to the predominantly American audience.

The Chevron Diesel Technician of the Month program is a recognition and reward program designed to acknowledge outstanding diesel technicians.

Recognizing the best diesel technicians is important to their career growth, self-esteem, and well being. It sends a positive message to new and prospective technicians, while continually rewarding a job well done.

The Automotive Transportation Service Superintendents’ Association (ATSSA) endorses this program and acts as the governing body to sanction and administer the Chevron Diesel Technician Award Program for Canada. The ATSSA has formed a judging committee to receive applications and make a selection on a monthly basis. The ATSSA will provide selection criteria and recommendations for an approved training program that can be put in place by award winners.
