Job Description

SUMMARY

The Journeyman Mechanic is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair, maintenance and overhaul of diesel powered vehicles and trailers, including fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, lubrication systems, engine control systems, major internal engine repair or overhaul, transmission repair or overhaul, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, power take offs, product loading and unloading systems, steering, suspension and brakes. The Journeyman Mechanic will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical and electrical problems, as well as have the ability to repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral instruction and an electronic repair order. The employee is expected to determine and communicate the nature and extent of required repairs. Other duties may be assigned as required. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position is accountable for:

·       Having a working knowledge of and adhering to company policies and procedures.

·      Practicing workplace safety and communicating any unsafe acts or conditions to the supervisor in accordance with the company safety commitments.  

·      Diagnostic troubleshooting of equipment problems, determining required repairs and communicating effectively so that best repair advice can be passed on to the customer.

·      Demonstrating continuous effort to improve operations and decrease customer downtime by working efficiently in order to meet industry standard repair times (SRT) and doing one’s part to ensure that our customers experience with us is exceptional.

·       Being highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively and cohesively in a diverse working environment.

·       Working cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.

·       Ensuring that all claimed paid time is accounted for accurately.

·       Completing only approved repairs and communicating any found work through the Foreman to the customer.

·       Working in such a manner that allows for one hour to be billed for every hour worked.

·    Accurate completion of repair order upon completion of repair, ensuring that the cause of the fault is noted, and the correction makes sense to the customer and justifies the time taken to complete, also ensuring that all parts used are charged out on the repair order.

·       Completing commercial vehicle inspections in accordance with the standards laid out in the Government Safety Inspection Manual.

·       Ensuring that all repairs are tested for correct function upon completion to verify that the malfunction has been corrected.

·       Maintaining a working knowledge of changes in technology and industry repair techniques.

·       Working out of the service truck on off-site customer calls when required.

·   Assisting in the training and development of the apprentices by mentoring and coaching in a manner commensurate with that of a professional tradesperson.

·       The attendance, completion and passing grade of all mandated company training.

·       Any other duties assigned by management for the good and benefit of the facility.

Qualifications

Inter-provincial Red Seal / Journeyperson certification

Will also accept applications from 3rd / 4th year apprentices if skill-set matches requirements
