Federal Standing Committee to Put Driver Inc Under the Microscope
September 26, 2025
The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities (TRAN) is launching a study next month on Driver Inc., including a series of meetings throughout the fall. The results of the study are expected to be published by the end of the year. The Committee announced this development at a recent meeting:
Upon completion of its study on the Canada Infrastructure Bank’s financing of new vessels for British Columbia Ferries, the committee will immediately undertake a new study on the phenomenon of “Driver Inc.”, comprising at least six meetings. The committee will summon the Minister of Transport, the Secretary of State for Labour, and the Secretary of State for Revenue to testify in this study for a minimum of one hour each. Other witnesses, chosen by the parties, will also be invited to appear. Finally, the committee will submit its conclusions and recommendations to the House."
The Canadian Trucking Alliance applauds the move.
“We thank all members of the committee for their commitment to examining the ongoing crisis in our industry, which we believe is the largest tax, labour misclassification, safety and human trafficking scheme in Canada,” said CTA President and CEO Stephen Laskowski. “We hope the committee’s examination and recommendations will create the necessary political will to truly end this existential crisis facing our sector and the Canadian supply chain.”
“We are hopeful the committee will see how the Driver Inc. scam manipulates and defrauds the tax base, the labour code, immigration programs, human rights codes, insurance companies, banks, workers compensation boards, provincial safety regimes; and, ultimately, the Canadian social system by depriving hospitals and schools of billions of dollars each year as well as jeopardizing the health and safety of all Canadians on public highways,” Laskowski said.
