Important Update: Manitoba Changes to Regulated Vehicle Markings
Jun 12, 2025
The Province of Manitoba has made amendments to the Regulated Vehicles (Safety Fitness, Operator Identification and Records and Vehicle Exemptions) Regulation. These updates affect how National Safety Code (NSC) numbers are displayed on regulated vehicles.
Key Changes
The requirement for NSC figures to be 5 cm wide has been removed.
Figures must still be at least 5 cm tall and must contrast with the background.
This change allows more flexibility and space for required markings on power units.
Updated Enforcement Date
New enforcement date: August 1, 2025
As of this date, all regulated vehicles that require a Safety Fitness Certificate to operate in Manitoba must display:
The NSC number of the registered owner, and
The company logo and/or name
This change applies to both Manitoba and out-of-province carriers (previously set for July 1, 2025).
Marking Requirements for Regulated Vehicles:
Must appear on both lateral sides of the vehicle.
Must include:
A distinctive mark or graphic identifying the registered operator.
The NSC number of the registered operator.
Minimum 5 cm tall letters/numbers, with good contrast against the background.
Applies to power units only (trucks or truck tractors), not to semi-trailers.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure Recommends
The registered operator’s identification should be the most prominent marking when multiple company names/logos are present.
The NSC number should be clearly identified, using one of the following formats:
NSC #: XXXXXXXXX
NSC: XXXXXXXXX
NSC No.: XXXXXXXXX
STA encourages members operating in or through Manitoba to ensure compliance with these updated regulations by the new enforcement date.
